Sadomasochism: Pleasure In Pain

They say, in love, it is always give and receive.  You give love, you receive love in return.  Is it the same for people who indulge in sadomasochism?

What is Sadomasochism?
This term sadomasochism was derived from the combination of sadism and masochism.  Sadism refers to the sexual pleasure derived from the infliction of pain and/or suffering to another person.  The word sadism was derived from the name of the Marquis de Sade, a French philosopher and writer who wrote many o sexually violent plays, short stories and novels. Masochism, on the other hand, refers to the opposite of sadism. In this case, people get sexually gratified by receiving pain, or having suffering inflicted upon them. The term masochism was derived from the name of famous Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, who was well known for his Venus in Fur which had a masochistic theme.

These two sexual perversions are often interrelated and collectively practiced as S&M or sadomasochism. 

Pain is Pleasure.  Pleasure is Pain.
As mentioned earlier, sadism and masochism refers to pain infliction as a pleasurable experience. In different degrees, the sensation of pain can heighten the pleasure, though each person’s pain tolerance is different.  Sadomasochism is not to be considered an act of violence. It may appear to look that way, though. It is a consensual agreement between a person who is skilled at and derives pleasure at inflicting pain on another, and a person who receives it and gains sexual satisfaction from the sensation.

Sadomasochism, though mostly related to the sexual aspect, is not only about the sex.  To some, pain can be more beneficial in a holistic aspect other than just sexual. Some people get a “high out of inflicting and receiving pain.  Scientifically, this is because pain triggers the release of endorphins, which are chemical compounds that create an analgesic or pain relieving effect or a sense of well-being.

Safety and communication are two major factors to keep in mind in choosing to enter this lifestyle.  Communication is important to establish what you both want out of the play.  Your partners need to understand your limitations, your interests, your experiences, your pain threshold, and the extent of your pain tolerance.  It is important to have a sit down with your prospective play partner to learn and understand who they are as well as establishing trust and rapport. It also makes the act more enjoyable. Safety is another important consideration in getting into this kind of lifestyle. If you are fairly new to this culture, jumping from one partner to another may lead to injury if neither of you are aware of each other’s limits and the appropriate way of going about the deed.  It is best to start with an experienced partner who knows how to read and interpret body languages, knows when to stop, and the different methods in using different implements.  You should be able to discuss what sensations you want to feel, what fantasies you’d like to act out, along with the things that you don’t want to do before even beginning the act. Negotiation and renegotiation in the middle of the act is not advisable. It is good, though, that you express feedback and establish connection between Top and Bottom person to ensure that both needs are met during the act.

Like it or not, sadomasochism is a big part of our society’s alternative lifestyle.  It is important to understand the most basic fact that everybody is different and accept it.  People may vary is sexual orientation and preferences, and it may not be acceptable to the general public, the most important thing to remember is that however diverse or taboo people’s choices are we must learn to respect them, just as we expect others to reciprocate an equal amount of respect for our own preferences.

Sauna And Positive Effects Of Negative Ions


Physiologically, the presence of negative ions in a sweat bath is as important as the heat. The discovery of negative ions in certain types of saunas a few years ago became headline news in Finland. Until then, the healing power of the sauna was attributed to relaxation and increased circulation. Now, negative ions add startling new possibilities.

Since the early 1950s scientists have suspected that ions play an important role in how the body functions and, consequently, in how we feel. Research has shown that an abundance of negative ions in the air we breathe is highly beneficial, while a lack of ions or a higher ratio of positive to negative can cause physical harm. The role played by ions in everyday life has become intensely topical among researchers in the medical profession.

An ion is simply a molecule with an electric charge, either positive or negative. Ionization, or ion formation, occurs when enough energy acts on a molecule to cause it to discharge an electron. Because electrons carry a negative charge, the molecule stripped of an electron has a greater positive charge and becomes a positive ion. The lost electron scoots around loose until it attaches itself to another molecule which causes the new molecule to become negatively charged—a negative ion.

Radioactive substances in the earth’s crust and cosmic rays cause most ionization. But fire, crashing water (like water falls and surf), and plants during photosynthesis can produce negative ions as well. Europeans take ion depletions seriously and simple negative ion generators have been installed in many businesses, banks, hospitals, and passenger cars and even airliner cockpits. Furthermore, in this country, Europe and the Soviet Union, negative ion therapy has been used in treatments to help burn victims heal faster, to cure respiratory diseases, to rid the body of general infections, and even to check the spread of some cancers.

Conversely, scientists have found that if the air is charged with too few negative ions and too many positives, we become anxious, fatigued and tense. This condition is known as “pos-ion poisoning,” and often occurs as the result of weather disturbances, central air conditioning, smog, and driving too long within the confines of an automobile. Pos-ion poisoning has, in fact, been linked to heart attacks, aggravated asthma, migraine headaches, insomnia, rheumatism, arthritis, hay fever, and most allergies.

The effect of negative ions on sweat bathing was discovered when researchers were trying to account for the tremendous popularity of sauna wood burning stoves over electric stoves. Subjective reasons, such as the fragrance of burned wood, did not fully explain why Finns felt so refreshed after time in a wood heated sauna and quite dulled, from certain electrically heated saunas. Tests showed that the practice of splashing water on super-heated rocks produced an abundance of negative ions.

Many electric stoves, it turned out, were not getting the rocks hot enough and the glowing metal heating coils were spurting more positive ions in the air. Researchers learned that if the rocks were properly heated in electric stoves, the positive ions, being larger and less mobile, would ground out on the hot stones.

Sauna Safety You Must Know!


Sauna is the only bath in the world in which both dry and damp air is present at the same time. It is the body’s natural way to cleanse itself through perspiration. The high heat (average of 180° F) and the low humidity (about 25%) create an environment which promotes over-all perspiration and the deep cleansing of pores.

Saunas are safe for most people so long as the sauna user follows a few simple rules:

Stay inside the sauna for no more than 30 minutes at a time.

Lie down or sit for at least 10 minutes after using the sauna. Make sure you drink plenty of mineralized water before and after the sauna. Add minerals or juice to your water if it is mineral-free. It is also a good idea to add extra sea salt to your diet to replace minerals lost through sweating in the sauna.

Use the sauna under supervision if you have a chronic condition. If you are debilitated or very sensitive to heat, begin with a shorter period of time in the sauna. The presence of an attendant or friend in the sauna can also be very helpful.

If you use the sauna once a day, the evening is probably the best time. If you are ill, however, the morning may prove a better time because your energy levels are higher. Using the sauna less often is also acceptable if you are just beginning or if your goal is to maintain your health. If you have a condition which is very debilitating, begin with using the sauna once a week. You may gradually work your way up to using the sauna daily as you feel able.

While using the sauna, it is important to take frequent showers in order to cool down as well as to remove substances from the skin and prevent their re-absorption.

A parent could be a great influence during the selection process that their child goes through to select their favorite baseball team. Basic Avalanche Awareness

Avalanches are a substantial potential threat to climbers year round. Every year, dozens of individuals are killed during avalanches because they were unequipped, did not recognize the danger signs or pushed too hard. Be prepared and you can remain safe while enjoying your climb.

Types of Avalanche

The two primary kinds of avalanches that occur in snow are point release and slab avalanches. Each has different characteristics and warning signs.

Point Release

When a single rock or snowball comes loose and the effect slowly grows larger, this is a point release avalanche. These are the less dangerous of the two kinds of avalanche as they are generally shallow and will usually only knock or push you to the ground. Slab Avalanche

A slab avalanche is when massive plates and chunks of ice and snow break loose and start to fall. Because of the larger scale, these avalanches are much more dangerous. When the weakened layer of snow collapses, the snow on top breaks up and starts to slide as well. A slab avalanche will vary greatly in size, from a point release sized slide to a massive flurry that can bury a house.

Avalanche Sizes

There are five primary sizes of avalanche. They include the following:

Class One – The equivalent of a point release. Will knock people over, but not deep enough to bury anything.
Class Two – Deep enough to bury a person.
Class Three – Deep enough to bury a car.
Class Four – Deep enough to bury a house.
Class Five – Deep enough to bury multiple houses – catastrophic avalanche.

The Avalanche Triangle

The danger of an avalanche is established when three points are present. These three points are considered the avalanche triangle and should keep climbers home or at their base.

Terrain – There are certain areas that are more prone to avalanches. This avalanche terrain is often quite obvious as there will be few if any trees present and an angle of more than thirty degrees to the slope. Anything less than thirty degrees is usually to gentle of a slope for severe avalanches.

Avalanches are still possible at small and large angles though. You may be on a run out area, accounting for a twenty degree slope. Alternately, though forty five degrees and higher is usually safe because snow will slide down naturally as it lands, there are certain circumstances in which avalanches are still possible at this angle.

Unstable Snow – The stability of the snow is one of the primary points of hazard for an avalanche. If it shifts readily under your feet, looks as though it has not moved in days or weeks, and no animals are present, the snow is likely very unstable, marking the area as a high danger zone for avalanches.

People – When there are people present, there is a danger of being caught up in an avalanche. If they are not present, an avalanche is nothing more than a beautiful act of nature. If you notice unstable snow in avalanche terrain, steer yourself and any other people away to remain safe.

There are many things you can do to avoid being caught up in an avalanche when you go climbing, skiing or snowboarding. The first thing is to know what you are looking for. By acknowledging and steering clear of potential danger points, you can keep yourself and your friends safe from the imminent bodily harm the mountain might inflict.

Basic Facts And Rules Of Cricket

This article will introduce to you the basic facts and rules of cricket to help you understand it better.

The game of cricket is played between two teams and each team has eleven players. The team may use a substitute if a player is injured and if he recovers he may come back on to the pitch. Cricket has two umpires that enforce the rules, make and judge decisions. There are also two scorers that keep the score for both teams.

In cricket the ball is 22.4 to 22.9cm in diameter and weights between 155 to 163 grams. The cricket bat is 96.5 long and 10.8 wide. The cricket wicket/pitch is 22 yards long and 10ft wide. The wickets themselves are composed of three stumps, which are 28 inches tall and 9 inches wide with three bails on top. The bowling crease is 8.8ft long and as wide as the wicket, it is centred on the stumps. The condition of the pitch should be good and ideally should give an even bounce.

Cricket is played for one or two innings depending on the type of match. The innings is over when all of the batsmen are out, or the innings is forfeit, or if the limit of overs or time is reached as agreed by the two captains.

A ‘follow-on’ occurs in a two innings match when a team that is batting does not reach the limit for runs to allow them to play on. This is when they are behind the fielding team by 200 runs for a test match, 150 for a three day match and 75 runs for a one day match. The batting team then has to bat again at the discretion of the other team. The captain of the batting team may end the innings whenever the ball is not in play.

There should be a 10 minute break between each innings, and there are also breaks for lunch, tea and drinks as agreed by the captains, after which the play is started again by the umpires. In the final hour the fielding team must bowl at least 20 overs. The teams may practice before or after the game at the umpire’s discretion.

The batting team scores a run when both batsman cross and reach the opposite ends of the wicket without getting out. If the ball goes over the boundary and does not bounce the batting team get 6 runs, if it does bounce then they get 4 runs. The team that gets the most runs is the winner. If they both get the same amount of runs it is a draw. Each over is 6 bowls long and then the next over is from the other end of the wicket.

If the batsman is not able to hit the ball from where he stands then the ball is wide This means that the batting team gets an extra run. There is also a no ball when the ball bounces more than one time on the way to the wicket when it has been bowled or the bowler does not bowl correctly. That gives the batting team an extra run. When the bowler bowls he may not put his foot over the crease and his arm must go over his shoulder and not bend.

If the ball is not hit when bowled, but the batsmen scores a run it is called a bye, but the batsman must play a shot. If the batsman makes a run when he has tried to hit the ball but it has bounced off of his pad then it is called a leg bye. The batsman is out if the ball is caught before it has hit the ground when he has hit it. He is out if the bowler knocks off the bails when the ball is bowled. The batsman is out if the bails are knocked off when he is out of the crease and the ball is in play.The batsman is out if he is not ready to face the ball in three minutes from the last batsman being out.

The batsman is out if he, hits the ball twice or gets hit by the ball after it is bowled and when it would have hit the wicket if he did not get in the way of it. The batsman is out when he purposely obstructs the fielding team when the ball is in play. The batsman is out when he is run out when the ball hits the wicket when he is not in the crease when he is running between the wickets. The wicket keeper stands behind the wicket and is able to wear gloves and pads. He can stump the batsman through knocking off the bails when the batsman is not in the crease.

When 10 out the 11 batsmen are out, or the amount of agreed overs or hours are completed, the innings is finished. The team that has the most runs at the end of the one or two innings are the winners. The amount of overs and innings is agreed between the two teams at the start of the game.
